At Velimir Perasovic's presentation as Baskonia coach, sporting director Félix Fernández explained the split with Paolo Galbiati, who led the club to last season's Copa del Rey. Fernández said they disagreed over the team's direction and the treatment of established players: captain Tadas Sedekerskis was outside Galbiati's plans, as were two or three others. He said Galbiati had told the club he wanted to coach Barcelona, and that Baskonia noticed "a lack of activity" from him in the postseason and preseason. Markus Howard left for Zenit after falling out of the rotation. Perasovic had already coached Baskonia's previous two games.
