Cameron Payne told BasketNews he was "this close" to signing with Besiktas when Mike James tore his Achilles against Crvena Zvezda on October 1. Anadolu Efes called right away and signed Payne through the end of the season two days after the injury, and the Besiktas offer fell through within about two hours. Besiktas later signed Lonnie Walker IV.
"It was actually another EuroLeague team that was calling me right in the moment that Mike James got hurt." — Cameron Payne
